HER House 90th Anniversary Weekend: April 20 – 22, 2018

Join fellow alumnae and current House residents the weekend of Friday, April 20 – Sunday, April 22, 2018 for a celebration of the legacy of the Harriet E. Richards Cooperative House, founded in 1928.

This celebration will coincide with our Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Event Schedule

Alumnae Brunch & Annual Meeting
Join us for our official 90th Anniversary Celebration and annual meeting. Tickets for this event will include a catered brunch.

Date: Sunday, April 22
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location: Harriet E. Richards Cooperative House, 191 Bay State Rd., Boston, MA
Cost: $15.00
Additional Information: Loved ones are welcome. There will be vegetarian options available during brunch.

Social at Sunset Cantina
Join your fellow alumnae for a casual evening gathering at Sunset Cantina, just across the street from FitRec on BU Campus. HERAA will purchase platters of nachos for the group . Drinks and full menu will be available for purchase.

Architectural House Tours
Join Keith Morgan, architectural historian and professor emeritus of American and European Architecture at Boston University, for an architectural history tour of the HER House. Professor Morgan will lead you throughout the House discussing the Greek marble columns in the foyer, the atrium lighting on the second floor and more. This is a chance to revisit your days as a HER House member from a new perspective!

Additional Information: There will be one tour departing at 11:30, and will last approximately 30 minutes. Learn more about Professor Morgan here.

Campus Tours
Join current House members Caroline and Caitlin as they lead one-hour walking tours of the Charles River campus. You’ll get to revisit your days as a student all while taking in the sights and sounds of the ever-changing landscape of Commonwealth Avenue.

Time: Tour begins at 12:00 pm
Location: The tour will begin and end at the Harriet E. Richards Cooperative House, 191 Bay State Rd., Boston, MA.
Cost: Free
Additional Information: The tour will involve walking and will last approximately one hour.

HER House Alumnae Speaker Series: Only at the HER House!
Join us for an afternoon of stories based on the theme: 'Only at the HER House!' Alumnae will share the story of a life-changing collaboration, introduction, or opportunity that could have only occurred because they lived in the HER House. This event is free and is meant to provide an entertaining forum for sharing stories and advice on friendship, adventures, careers, family, and personal well-being. (Think Ted Talks) 

There will be six speakers discussing a range of topics, including the first Eat for Equity, dressmaking with refugees and asylum seekers in Italy, and community-building through holding space for others.

Additional Information: The College of Arts and Sciences is located at 725 Commonwealth Avenue, an easy walking distance from the HER House.

Clothing Drive
Have any old slacks, pumps or pencil skirts that you no longer wear to the office? Consider donating them to our clothing drive! We'll be collecting office-appropriate shoes, clothes and jewelry to pass on to current residents and young alumnae as they jumpstart their professional careers. Donations can be dropped off at the House throughout the weekend, and all items will be up for grabs at the conclusion of the Tea and Annual Meeting on Sunday.

Additional Information: Clothing may be dropped off at any time throughout the weekend, and will be available to take home after the Annual Meeting on Sunday.


Using public transportation is highly encouraged.

Please note that there are performances at the Boston University Agganis Arena during the afternoon throughout the weekend that coincide with our various events. There will be limited street and commercial lot parking available on or near campus.

If you need to drive into town, please take note of the following information regarding parking:

    • Metered Parking
      • Sundays meters are free. Saturdays, 8am-8pm, meters take:
        • Quarters
        • Credit cards (Visa and MasterCard)
        • Payments via Park Boston app on your mobile device
    • Parking Lots
      • BU has several parking lots on campus that will be open throughout the weekend, but will have event pricing on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
      • BU alumni receive a 50% discount in all BU parking lots, even during Red Sox games.
      • A list of available parking lots, including maps, can be found here. 
      • BU alumni must have an alumni card – no exceptions – to get the discount. Alumni can get a free card here.

If you are a local alumna and are available to host out-of-town alumnae or an out-of-town alumna looking for a local host, please contact HERAA. HERAA cannot guarantee we will be able to secure a homestay for visiting alumnae; please have alternative accommodations available.
